Asbestos is a generic term used to describe several forms of naturally occurring silicate minerals, e.g. Chrysotile (white asbestos), Amosite (brown asbestos) and Crocidolite (blue asbestos). The link between exposure to all types of asbestos, particularly airborne fibres, and fatal illnesses is well known. It is estimated that over 3000 people die of asbestos related causes each year, with the number increasing annually. The most common serious diseases caused by exposure to asbestos are: Asbestosis, Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma. For these diseases there is no known cure, with victims sometimes dying within 18 months to 2 years from diagnosis. Millions of tons of products containing asbestos have been used in construction in the past, with many of these products still there and no central register in existence. Here are some places where asbestos can be found: wall and ceiling panels, pipe insulation, floor and ceiling tiles, fuse boxes, roofing materials, rainwater goods and water tanks. asbestos removal Astech Environmental Services Limited specialises in asbestos removal the safe removal of asbestos-based materials. Astech Environmental Services Limited can assist with this problem by carrying out an asbestos survey of your premises to identify and determine the extent of the material and associated hazards. The survey findings are presented as a written report with photographic evidence. The new Asbestos Surveyor’s guide HSG 264 which was out in draft format for most of 2009, was finally published at the beginning of 2010 (29th Jan). The names of the types of surveys have changed to Management and Refurbishment / Demolition Surveys. The central theme of HSG264, is the gathering of information and reaching agreement on the scope of the survey. The client has to make sure that all areas are available for access and passing all the information that is relevant. Management Survey Refurbishment / Demolition Survey A demolition survey should be carried out to the whole building if demolition is to occur. This type of survey is fully intrusive and all areas of the building will be accessed to locate any asbestos containing materials. contact us You can contact Astech Environmental Services Limited by post, phone fax or email: Unit 13, Sunrise Business Park
